Diyarbakır Arts Center hosted a compilation of artworks from the 8th İstanbul Biennial focusing on the notion of Poetic Justice September 25 – October 25, 2003. The selection comprised video works by artists such as Michael Rile, Filipa Cesar and Esra Ersen. At the opening ceremony, a talk was held with the participation of the biennial curator Dan Cameron. In his speech addressing issues regarding justice, global problems, national borders and the impact of globalization on the judicial system, Cameron discussed the question of reconciliation between the truth-values of art and the geopolitical sphere. While offering the concept of ‘poetic justice’ as the basis for a sustained investigation into the latest developments in contemporary art, the biennial exhibition sought to open up a space for creative activity where the seemingly opposing concepts of poetry and justice were brought into play together. In addition to curator Dan Cameron’s talk at the opening, on September 26, a talk titled ‘On Contemporary Art’ was held with the participation of the biennial artist Tony Feher.
