‘BAK: Revealing the City through Memory’, which has been carried out by Anadolu Kültür and Diyarbakır Arts Center since 2012, has been presented to the audience with new productions. The BAK Voicing Voices Collective Production Workshop, which was held July 2020-April 2021, set out to bring together 15 women participants from Diyarbakır, Mardin, and Batman to reconstruct the stories told about the city and memory through creative interventions.

Facilitated by Ayça Çiftçi and Sevgi Ortaç, the workshop brought together participants in three online meetings. During the research and idea development process, participants who followed the trail of collective and personal memory embarked on an exploration of the language of stories that pluralized and diversified as they are told. After the production and post-production phases, 12 stories and ideas were transformed into creative documentaries and experimental works. The films set out with the question: ‘Instead of grand, noisy, and comprehensive narratives, can Voicing Voices offer a possibility to breathe by following the stories that transform, become liberated, and diversified through the joy of a game and the vulnerability of staggering?’ Following an intensive production process that took place entirely online, the films had their first screening on the BAK YouTube channel, available for viewing for four days on April 23-27, 2021. After the screenings, a public Zoom event was held April 26, 2021, with the participation of film writer-editor Senem Aytaç and academician-documentary filmmaker Aylin Kuryel as speakers and moderators, as well as workshop participants, consultants, coordinators and the project team. Voicing Voices films have been screened at various national and international festivals.
