‘Tragedy, Poetry, Theatre’, a series of thematic events exploring the legacy of Mesopotamian civilization in contemporary art and literature, took place at Diyarbakır Arts Center and Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Conference Hall in October 2002. The program included a film screening and panel discussions, which addressed issues regarding text, theme, subject matter, form and style in theatre. Speakers Metin Boran, Cevat Çapan and Kawa Nemir discussed the relationships between ancient texts and poetic language. Following dramaturgical and critical analysis of the works of some local as well as international authors, they responded to the questions from the audience. Throughout the series of events, discussions covered a wide range of topics including the Mesopotamian mythology, Irish theatre, and poetry translation. The programme also included a screening of the film adaptation of an ancient drama. Spread over four days, ‘Tragedy, Poetry, Theatre’ reached over 400 audiences in total.
