Murathan Mungan’s story ‘Kasım ile Nasır’ was staged in a restored old Diyarbakır house used as Youth and Culture Center on June 4, 11, 12, 13, 2004 as part of the project carried out by Diyarbakır Arts Center. The research process of the project, launched with a workshop by Şule Ateş at Diyarbakır Arts Center in the fall of 2003, continued with the support of the city’s cultural institutions and experts. The play came about at the end of this process, and had its premiere on June 4, 2004, as part of Diyarbakır 4th Culture and Arts Festival. The play, adapted and directed by Şule Ateş, received project consultancy by Metin And. It combines Iranian dramatic performance Ta’ziyeh, Turkish theatrical tradition and contemporary acting methods. The play tells a fairy tale about a nomadic Kurdish tribe. Young actors from Diyarbakır participated in the project where Kurdish music and local dances were used. The characteristics of traditional Kurdish clothes were captured by using old fabrics as much as possible in costume designs. ‘Kasım ile Nasır’ project was also supported by the Metropolitan Municipality of Diyarbakır and the Diyarbakır Chamber of Pharmacists.
