‘Identity, Belonging, and the Other’, a project envisioned in response to the demand from the audience and volunteers of the Diyarbakır Arts Center to focus on issues of identity, belonging, and other related matters, was held February 2009-April 2010 and consisted of a series of talks, workshops, and preparation of a book. The project included comprehensive and intense discussions on various topics, such as children and politics, collective memory, masculinity, homophobia, citizenship, and cultural rights. As part of the project, also a writing workshop was conducted by Yıldırım Türker.
The book titled “”Belonging, Identity, and the Other,”” which includes some of the interviews conducted during the project, constituted the final stage of the project and was widely distributed in the city and region. The book records the discussions initiated by the Diyarbakır Arts Center in the course of the project, which was supported by the Open Society Foundation and the Dutch Embassy, and contains conversations from a total of eight interviews. Numerous events, such as exhibitions, talks, workshops, performances, and film screenings, were organized as part of the project.
