Diyarbakır Arts Center hosted an exhibition featuring caricature arts and paintings by artists from prisons across Turkey June 2-6, 2006. Designed by the caricature artists Semih Poroy and Ender Özkahraman, the ‘Drawing in Prison’ exhibition showcased 67 caricatures by 9 artists, and was visited by approximately a thousand people. Some of the featured works were outcomes of the workshops conducted by Semih Poroy in Kars and Bandırma prisons for one and a half years, within the scope of the Anadolu Kültür project titled ‘Beyond Prison Walls’. Other artworks were directly submitted to Anadolu Kültür upon its open call targeting prisons. The exhibition also featured the drawings of some artists who had specialized in caricature art through their letter exchanges with Oğuz Aral. Semih Poroy and Ender Özkahraman later compiled the exhibited works in a book, which was published by Kanat Press in 2006 with the title of ‘Drawing in Prison’.
