Diyarbakır Arts Center and Cervantes Institute organized Cervantes Week in Diyarbakır January 17-29, 2003. The program comprising an exhibition, a panel and film screenings attracted great interest. The series of events started with a photography exhibition of Marian Mar who focuses on the work of Antoni Gaudi, the great Catalonian architect of Art Nouveau. After the opening of the exhibition, Pablo Martín Asuero, the director of Cervantes Institute, gave a speech on the cultural interactions between Spain and other countries. One of the highlights of the program was a panel discussion where two prominent scholars of literature, Jale Parla and Sibel Irzık, addressed Spain’s literary legacy through a debate on Don Quixote and the postmodern novel. Within the scope of Cervantes Week, a selection of classic and contemporary Spanish films was screened at Diyarbakır Arts Center. Over two thousand people attended these events.
