Diyarbakır Arts Center hosted the ‘September 13’ exhibition September 13-October 10, 2010. This exhibition was the last one organized by Diyarbakır Arts Center in Diyar Galeria. Halil Altındere, Canan, Aslı Çavuşoğlu, Köken Ergun, Bengü Karaduman, Şener Özmen, Özlem Sulak and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Memory Group participated in this exhibition, which is the continuation of the ‘Coup’ exhibition held at Outlet, an alternative art venue in Istanbul, in 2009. The exhibition featured works that interpreted the process since the coup in shocking and creative manners, using the haunting sounds of boots and tanks, outlawed words, and memories engraved to minds. The exhibition aimed to make the weight of the real tragedy felt and put it in a political context by adopting a critical approach to the representation of the coup in different popular culture and art works. The exhibition opened right after the September 12, 2010 referendum (which sought to bring amendments to the constitution drafted following the September 12 coup) with the participation of numerous artists, writers, municipality officers and civil society professionals.
