Diyarbakır Arts Center hosted the ‘Şerefname and Şerefxanê Bedlîsî: Colors and Sounds’ exhibition November 9-20, 2007. The exhibition comprised miniatures from the book titled ‘Şerefname: The History of Ancient Kurdistan’ written by Mir Şerefxan, the Emir of Bitlis at the time, in the 16th century. Mir Şerefxan received his education in the palace of the Iranian Shah Tahmasb and learned miniature there. Instead of documenting events in writing in Şerefname, he described and explained these subjects in the form of miniatures. There are twenty miniatures in the first volume, and four miniatures in the second volume of Şerefname. Each miniature depicts a historical event. A copy of the miniatures in the book, the original copy of which is in the Oxford University Bodleian Library, met with the visitors at the exhibition held at Diyarbakır Arts Center. Following the opening, more than a hundred viewers attended the talk on Şerefname and miniatures with the participation of Kurdish writers, publishers, and researchers such as Ziya Avcı, Kadri Yıldırım and Abdullah Keskin.
