Diyarbakır Arts Center hosted the ‘Children’s Literature Studies’ workshop February 24-25, 2007, under the direction of Nilay Yılmaz, a Turkish Language instructor at Istanbul Bilgi University, who carries out academic studies on children’s literature. Following a discussion on theoretical approaches to children’s books, how to reach quality works and the selection criteria for children’s books were discussed, alongside production of quality children’s books. The fundamental elements of children’s books, the interaction between children and books, the role of listening to stories in child development, choosing books according to age groups, creative reading and writing activities were among the topics covered. The event, which attracted great interest from civil society workers, teachers, writers, and readers interested in children’s literature, continued for two days with productive discussions.
