In collaboration with Galeri Apel, Diyarbakır Arts Center held the exhibition ‘The Neighbor’ November 18-December 7, 2005. Curated by Nuran Terzioğlu, ‘The Neighbour’ was a follow up to a series of exhibitions hosted by Galeri Apel: ‘The Street’ in 1999, ‘The Harvest’ in 2001 and ‘Poet’s Garden: The Vineyard’ in 2003. The exhibited artists focused on tales of neighborhood in tragedies, poetries, novels, proverbs and idioms of various cultures, and they investigated the use of the concept of neighbor in diverse contexts such as sociology, anthropology, history, law and mathematics. The exhibition also raised questions about the future of the notions of neighbor and neighborhood, considering the rapidly changing social relationships. Curator Terzioğlu addressed these issues also at a panel organized within the scope of the exhibition.
