KurdîLit: Network for Kurdish Literature and Publishing in Turkey

KurdîLit: Network for Kurdish Literature and Publishing in Turkey was designed by Diyarbakır Arts Center, Lîs Publishing House, and Literature Across Frontiers as a first step in a number of planned projects that aim to strengthen the visibility of Kurdish literature.

BAK: Revealing the City through Memory Exhibition at Amed Art Gallery!

The Diyarbakır exhibition of BAK: Revealing the City through Memory project will open at Amed Art Gallery on 16 April 2016. The exhibition will be on view until May 8.

BAK: Revealing the City through Memory Exhibition at Istanbul DEPO

The Istanbul exhibition of BAK: Revealing the City through Memory project, realized with the participation of 24 young people from 10 cities across Turkey, will open at DEPO on 4 March 2016. The exhibition, comprising 6 video and 5 photography works will be on view until April 10.

BAK: Revealing the City through Memory participants came together in Diyarbakır on 23-29 May 2015

The second workshop of BAK 2015 took place in Diyarbakır on 23 – 29 May 2015, with the participation of 24 young people from Balıkesir, Batman, Çanakkale, Diyarbakır, İzmir, Mardin, Muğla, Şırnak and Urfa.

Following the determination of BAK photography and video groups and their project themes in İzmir workshop in March 2015, BAK participants met up in Diyarbakır to complete the last preparations of their video and photography projects before production phase. Project groups who were working on the development of their projects since the first workshop, completed the pre-production phase, and planned and prepared for production during the second workshop. The production of the projects will take place between June and September, 2015 in BAK cities.

In the second workshop program, there were some additional sessions accompanied by guest instructors who shared their collective work experiences and technical details related to the production in the field of photography, multimedia and video. For photography, Serra Akcan, Anahit Hayrapetyan and Serpil Polat from Narphotos; for multimedia, Sevgi Ortaç; and for video, experienced cameraman and director of photography Koray Kesik shared their experiences and provided technical support for the project groups. In addition, plenty of sessions on preparatory process for shooting including shooting scripts, production workflow, etc. were held within the second workshop. Moreover, the production and post- production coordinator of BAK video projects, Gökçe İnce, presented a session on how to use the technical equipments while shooting on the set, and provided some preliminary information on the details of issues that concern production and post-production phase.

Similarly to the first workshop in İzmir, a Diyarbakır city tour was a part of the second workshop program, during which the cultural structure of the city could be observed. City tour ended with an interactive talk with Şeyhmus Diken. BAK participants also visited the “Sırlanmış Zaman” photography and multimedia exhibition, and attended the opening of Diyarbakır City Museum. Diyarbakir Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted BAK’s second workshop and activities.

BAK: Revealing the City through Memory is a cultural collaboration and artistic production project realized with  the participation of young people from different cities of Turkey. The aim of BAK is for young people from cities and regions that are distant from each other to get to know each other and the different areas they live in; and to work together to record the stories of these cities in film and photography projects. Following the second workshop; the production and post–production of projects will be finalized, and the video and photography projects produced within BAK 2015 will be presented in the framework of a screening and an exhibition program in İstanbul, Diyarbakır and İzmir in 2016.

Workshop programs within the project were designed and organized in collaboration with Geniş Açı Project Office (GAPO)  ve docİstanbul – Center for Documentary Studies.
